How's this for the one beer rule!

Yes I agree it's good to stay active when you retire.

A retired New Yorker known as "The Bar Man" is on a quest. He is going to visit 1,000 bars in a single year and he is dooing it on the one beer rule.

The Bar Man started out January 1st and five months later he stopped at 499 bars. He is halfway to completing his impossible dream. I checked out his blog for the following advice:

Following the common sense advice of checking with a doctor before embarking on any new "exercise" program, I checked in with mine concerning my One Thousand Bar trek. After pronouncing me fit and perfectly suited for such a program, we then discussed proper nutrition and my actual "exercise" program. As might be expected, he stressed the importance of a good breakfast. He thought a three day on, one day off pace might be optimal, but we both agreed that circumstances would have a large affect on that.

Today I decided to go to three bars that are listed in one of my favorite guides, “Jimmy’s Best New York Irish Pub Guide” This has a couple of nice maps of Manhattan. One shows the subway lines and the larger one, which only shows Manhattan below 83rd Street, has the locations of 80 Irish bars marked with red numbered circles. An invaluable, if somewhat incomplete, guide.
